In the wake of Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Michael, there is a tremendous need for aid to those who have been affected. The Southeast Produce Council and the Society of St. Andrew have been working together to send much-needed relief to communities in North Carolina and the Florida panhandle after the devastating blows of these powerful hurricanes.

On Oct. 17, The Society of St. Andrew delivered about three truckloads of donated produce to Rowland, NC, to be distributed to surrounding communities to counter the effects of Hurricane Florence. Donations included cabbage, sweet potatoes, apples, onions, clementines and other produce thanks to the generosity of the following SEPC Members: Cabbage Inc., Honeycutt Produce, Nickey Gregory Co., Shuman Produce Inc., Wayne Bailey Produce Co., Wonderful Citrus, and Zespri Kiwifruit, as well as freight assistance by ReedTMS Logistics.

Florida residents who have been impacted by the disastrous Category 4 storm, Hurricane Florence, are in desperate need of clean water as well as other necessities. SEPC is contributing a truckload of bottled water and is grateful to Publix Supermarkets as well as Southern Valley Fruit & Vegetable Inc. for their help in expediting this process. The SEPC is hopeful that fellow members will follow suit with other donations once enough utilities have been restored and communities are able to receive them.

“We are extremely thankful for all of the support we have received from our members to provide these fresh produce shipments and bottled water to the areas hardest hit from these hurricanes," said David Sherrod, president and CEO of the Southeast Produce Council. "Our hearts go out to all the victims who have lost so much and those who are trying to put their lives back together. Through our SEPC Cares initiative, we will continue to offer assistance to as many people as we possibly can. Our mission is to have a servant's heart for our community and for the produce industry.”
